Economic Impact of International Travel

The number of world class travel destinations has proliferated. The United States has fallen from first to sixth among dream detinations for international travelers. Aditionally, the U.S. market share of world travelers has dropped 35% between 1992 and 20071. It is estimated that this loss has cost the U.S. $286 billion in economic growth, as well as millions of jobs2. The restoration of America's travel brand is of vital importance to the U.S. economy. The Discover America - USA Travel Guide is one key way U.S. destinations and attractions can participate in a strategic marketing effort to regain lost market share, and benefit from the anticipated growth which will result from educating and inspiring international travelers to select the USA as their next vacation destination.
